In this two-day class, participants will learn the techniques, tips and tricks to working with soft chalk pastels.

The Tamarack Club at Holiday Valley Mountain Resort is hosting an exhibition of new work by established regional artist Sean Huntington.

Students will use a variety of stitches to create a simple floral motif that includes the following stitches: stem stitch, French knot, lazy daisy, back stitch, and straight stitch.

A photography exhibition by Japanese artist Etsuko Yuasa opens Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at St. Bonaventure University.

The exhibition, titled “Visual Poetry,” will be accompanied by poems written by Etsuko, which will be exhibited in both Japanese and English.   The opening will include a 4 p.m. lecture by the artist in the Quick Center’s Rigas Theater. The lecture is FREE and open to the public.

 Etsuko’s early years were filled with art, especially drawing and painting. As a teen, she developed interests in film, oil painting and design, but it was through still photography that she thought she could best express herself.  When visiting Los Angeles in 1983. she was captivated by the American lifestyle and way of thinking.

Etsuko spent eight years in the commercial photo industry, but became interested in the stylist aspects of photography. In time, she changed her focus from photography to being an

The Challenger Learning Center is offering a simulated rendezvous with Comet Halley.  This two hour mission transports participants to the year 2061when Comet Halley will visit our part of the solar system as its route takes it close to the sun and earth.  Participants will take a closer look, constructing a probe, plotting an interception and overcoming the challenges of space travel

The Cattaraugus County Arts Council (CCAC) announces an exhibition of work from artists participating in the Seneca Arts Virtual Incubator (SAVI) program. The public is invited to an opening reception on Friday, January 20 from 6-8pm at CCAC’s gallery space at 100 W. Main St., Allegany.

Grand Funk Railroad is scheduled to perform at Seneca Allegany Events Center on March 10 for a 7 p.m. show.  The high-energy band was one of the top rock acts of the 1970s, and hits like “Locomotion”,  “We’re An American Band” and “Some Kind of Wonderful” still play on the airwaves today. 

The New York State Maple Producers Association is proud to announce that they will be hosting the 17th Annual New York Maple Weekend two weekends in 2012.  Saturday and Sunday March 17/18 and March 24/25, participating maple producers will open up their production facilities to the public.  Maple weekends take place regardless of the weather, so please dress accordingly for your visit
